Great time had by all! Tara was a hoot, and an experienced captain. My Dad, son, and I all had a great time. We each hooked a blue marlin, plus my son caught a yellowtail of some sort (not tuna). Tara and crew were excellent. Boat was amazing! We would definitely go again and be sure to book Tara, if possible.
Fishing Kona is either an on or off affair. We went out with Captain Nate and Lee - highly knowledgable concerning the fisheries and strategy. Company was able to find us a boat on very short notice, enabling us to fulfill a longstanding bucket list item. They knew the best chance for a fish was trolling for Ono about a 1/2 mile out and sure enough we caught a beauty. They provided us a generous portion for two dinners and it was Dee-licious. Of course it is always nice if the fish are hurling themselves into the boat, but the test of a good crew is catching fish when the bite is not hot. Thanks Nate and Lee!
Captain Taylor asked us if we wanted to swim with the dolphins, go whale watching or go fishing - with 14 people, all of whom were family, with ages spanning 8 decades, you can imagine the answer was "Yes!" And he and his mate absolutely delivered on all three counts, including an 80 lb+ fish which Taylor expertly reeled into the boat. Needless to say the entire group was thrilled and we ate WELL on our last night. What a day!
I booked the trip on line through fishbooker and the process was quick and easy. We met the boat, BiteMe4 at the Kona pier and set off for a full day. The morning started slow but our captain Curtis used his skill to but us on fish. Anthony our deckhand was very expierenced and guided us through the entire process. We had a double marlin hookup about 4 hours into the trip. We lost one but the second stayed booked and a 2.5 hour fight began. Anthony really earned his wages and did a great job in coaching us through the fight. At the weigh station the marlin weighed in at 437 lbs. I can reccomend Bite Me sportfishing to anyone who wants a great fishing experience on the big island. They have experienced crews and are very professional.
Captain Taylor took my entire family out. We snorkeled with the dolphins. We saw a group of whales it was amazing. We then caught a large 5 foot spearfish. The captains stories and hospitality of the crew made it worth every penny. I can not say enough good things!
