Beautiful Personalized Private Morning Snorkel
hapunagirlpt, 01-02-2023
Aloha Kona specializes in private ocean charters on their small luxury boat, they can accommodate up to 6 passengers. The price point for this tour is really good and you are in good hands with Captain Koichiro. This tour is also great for Japanese travelers, as Captain Koichiro is Japanese/English speaking.

The tour provides a few non-alcoholic beverages (soda, juice, and water), as well as packaged snacks and fruits with crackers and cheese - the kids even got to enjoy some sparkling cider in plastic champagne glasses. Snorkel gear is also provided for anyone who chooses not to bring their own. Koichiro is pretty flexible if the guests want to start at a later time, but morning snorkels usually depart at 8:30am.

This company does everything from Kealakekua morning snorkels (4 hour charter recommended for any trips out to Kealakekua), they also do Manta night snorkeling, as well as personalized snorkel tours out North.

We decided to head north for our snorkel to just be able to get in a good swim near Makalawena. We stopped a couple of stops where the kids had a great time jumping off the boat into the water. While it's probably best to head south for the best snorkeling, we opted for finding a more secluded and private place to swim.

I highly recommend this tour company for smaller groups that want a private charter. Meeting area is on the far right side of Honokohau Harbor. I aan't wait to go out on a Manta Snorkel with Aloha Kona Tours next.

Only one tiny itty bitty toilet on board (mostly for emergencies), so I definitely recommend using the restroom before getting on the boat!
Great morning on the water!

We had a wonderful morning with Captain Ko & Julia. It was a nice 26’ boat with plenty of room and they provided snorkeling equipment as well as a lovely little food tray. We saw dolphins on the way to Kealakekua Bay for the best snorkeling we’ve seen yet. Captain Ko brought us out a little deeper for the drive back to the harbor and we were lucky enough to see some whales, too. It was a great way to get on the water without a huge group on our vacation.
Best tour ever!

We’re not exaggerating when we say this is our family’s best-ever tour — and one of the most fun days we’ve ever had. We were a bit hesitant to book the charter, as there weren’t many reviews online compared with other operators. The reviews were uniformly good, but it still gave us pause. We learned on the tour that Captain Ko focused exclusively on the Japanese market until COVID interrupted his operations, and that he only started offering tours to English speakers within recent months. Thus, the relatively few reviews on English-speaking sites. Let’s just say we’re glad we listened to the reviewer who said, “Just book it.”

Let me tell you about our perfect day on the water. Captain Ko and his crewmate Kamma (not sure of the spelling) greeted us at the harbor with the boat tied up and ready to go. We were asked what we wanted to see that day. We said, “Wildlife and a private beach, please.” Captain Ko and Kamma exceeded our expectations in every way. We saw spinner dolphins right out of the harbor. We stopped at a manta ray snorkel spot, and although we didn’t see rays, we saw plenty of gorgeous fish. Even better, we were the only ones there — quite a difference from the Captain Cook area. After we moved on from there, we stopped near another boat to snorkel with 3- to 5-foot reef sharks — a rare treat.

We eventually made our way to a private white-sand beach. Although it wasn’t completely private, it was still gorgeous and very secluded. As we snorkeled to the shore, we came across two sea turtles munching on the sea grass. We then lounged on the beach for a while, swam back to the boat, and loaded up on snacks.

On the way home, Captain Ko’s eagle eyes spotted two humpback whales. It’s early in the season for humpbacks, so this was an unexpected treat. We were already nearing four hours on the water, but the captain graciously extended our tour for an additional half hour so we could enjoy the whale watching. We saw dolphins again upon entering the harbor.

Captain Ko and Kamma were wonderful hosts. They were friendly, easy-going, informative, and enthusiastic. Kamma even acted as our personal photographer at times. The boat itself was super-comfortable. There were several seating and lounging areas, a speaker system that played our tunes via Bluetooth, and cup holders galore. Our hosts provided snorkel gear, snacks, and drinks, so we weren’t wanting for anything.

Overall, it’s hard to put into words what a beautiful day we had — although I suppose we just did, ha. Captain Ko and Komma are a phenomenal team. They go above and beyond to make your day as perfect as they can. We can’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Exactly what I was looking for

This was absolutely perfect. I chartered it for half the day with my parents and my partner and everyone said it was the highlight of their trip. It was perfectly relaxing and catered to whatever you want to do. Captain took us to see beautiful highlights of the island only viewable by boat. We were able to see two large pods of dolphins as well as snorkeling in Captain Cook bay. He provided refreshing fresh cut fruit after snorkeling and also artisan snacks along the way. His first mate was a great guide in the water helping point out the wildlife. At the end of the tour he mentioned he had previously only been doing tours in Japanese - we had no idea and absolutely no difficulty as only English speakers. Overall the tour was informative, relaxing, and a beautiful. A perfect start to our trip.
Private boat experience exceeded our expectations

We enjoyed a morning trip with Captain Ko and Ron. They both went above and beyond to ensure we had the best snorkel conditions, dolphin sightings, and gave us some great history along the way. The boat is very well maintained and for 6 adults was a very comfortable ride. We will certainly book again with them in next time and highly recommend.
